screenOffset

function screenOffset
cinematic.ts:717
screenOffset(x: number, y: number, range: number, fovDeg: number, aspect: number) → Vec3

The camera-space offset that puts a point at a screen position, range meters from the lens.

The authoring primitive for anything choreographed against the frame rather than against the world. A reference edit is measured in screen coordinates and apparent size — "the hull's bbox center is (0.35, 0.51) and it spans 0.70 of the frame at f872" — and converting each of those to meters by hand is where a recreation quietly stops matching: the numbers in the script no longer resemble the numbers in the measurement, so nobody can see that one has drifted from the other. Beats written in this language can be read straight off the analysis and checked against it.

range is distance from the lens, not depth along the axis, so a beat's apparent size is length / range wherever it sits in the frame.
