WIPE_RAIL

const WIPE_RAIL: LinePath

The wipe as a rail, and the check that it is the right one.

A straight ship in front of a locked camera is a straight image line, and a line's two ends project to its two vanishing points — so an approach's direction is fixed by where the hull first appears. The fit through the wipe's own beats gives (0.3638, 0.0730, 0.9286), and the point that direction says the hull must come from is (0.234, 0.595) against a measured entry mark of (0.239, 0.591). Six thousandths of the frame apart, from two numbers that were not fitted to each other.

Pinned on f1313 rather than on the entry, because the line has an impact parameter and only the near beats can see it: at 36 km every line through the entry mark looks the same, and at 850 m the difference between missing the lens by 294 m and hitting it is the whole shot. Projected back, the rail reproduces the measured track to 0.010 of the frame or better across f1288–1315 — the whole approach — which is the assertion design/plans/tng-intro.md §3.3 asks a fit to carry.

Past f1316 the beats stop being measurements: the reference's hull is across the lens and its box is the frame. The authored pair at (1.15, 0.05) and (2.10, −0.50) were a hand-thrown exit, and the rail replaces them with the one it has — closest approach 294 m on f1317, which is the measured occlusion frame, and then a recede whose screen position races off the top right because that is what passing a lens does.
