DEFAULT_SEARCH_LIMIT

const DEFAULT_SEARCH_LIMIT: 1000

How many of the nearest matches a search keeps.

A thousand, and the number is about reading rather than about memory. The far end of a sweep's answer is the part nobody reaches: results come back nearest first, and a reader looking for somewhere to go stops long before the thousandth. What the cap buys is a bounded sort — the accumulated array is re-ordered as batches land, and unbounded that is the main thread's whole budget on a wide sweep.
